The coffee shop Pret A Manger has started the year off with an ingenious marketing strategy to bring existing and new customers to their stores. Their ‘make someone smile initiative’ is beating the January blues by giving out 120,000 free tea or coffee’s, with winners receiving a special ‘make someone smile’ drink sleeve. What sets this free giveaway apart from others is Pret’s Altruistic twist; by offering the winners to in turn share their free drink to anyone they choose by passing on the sleeve.
Pret is presenting a goodwill message for its brand and showcasing that loyalty with customers is what matters rather than just random free drinks for good looking individuals. This initiative moves on from Pret’s previous free coffee giveaway to regulars (or if the barista liked you) and has placed it in the hands of the customers to share joy (and coffee) with others.
